monday thrift store gems

Found these great pieces at Goodwill today! A new accessory for my desk and a pair of 7.99 Bergdorf Goodman seersucker pants! (They were a little big on me, so I'll have to take them in. But that's just a formality for a pair of incredibly gorgeous trousers!)

Croquet anyone?

living fabulously on a budget - march edition

Hello lovely ladies and gents!

Back after a few weeks of major event planning with my PR firm! Got a big event coming up at The Hollywood Tower, An Afternoon of Fashion. We've brought in even bigger and better designers and artisans than last time! Woohoo! So if you're around, The Hollywood Tower, this Sunday, 12-4pm. I'll be the one running around crazy!

Anyway, wanted to reach out and write out my budget friendly to-do list for March (as inspired by Matchbook Mag). May not be very interesting, but wanted to publicly write it so to keep myself accountable! As I have talked about in past blog posts, I'm trying this whole thing called living on a budget so not to get my head in a frenzy and to be extra smart so I can pay for things in the future! A time will come when I don't have to be so frugal, but for now, its good to embrace it! Hope this inspires you as well. :)

1. Finish my friend's copy of Anne of Green Gables
2. Find a new pair of flats for under $20 that are both comfy and adorable
3. Drink yummy tea for dessert
4. Spend off time at LA art galleries on their free days sketching and journaling
5. Ride my bike to Jones on Third for breakfast once a week
6. Wear more navy and pink
7. Watch less Gossip Girl and read more Fitzgerald
8. Work out at least 4-5 times a week
9. Do my own pedicures
10. Get a haircut at the local beauty school
11. Eat more power foods
12. Scope out local thrift stores for a record player

Remember, you can live the life you've always dreamed! And think, Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's had no money and she still looked fabulous. So can you!

fashion files: lily collins

Starring as Snow White in the upcoming Julie Roberts film, Mirror Mirror, actress Lily Collins seems to play the fairest one in all the land on and off camera. With an inventive classy style, this lovely English lady is the daughter of legendary musician, Phil Collins and previously wrote a column for Elle Girl as well as contributions to Teen Vogue, Seventeen and the L.A. Times. So fun!

From her Audrey Hepburn shoot with British mag Tatler last June.
Does she not look exactly like her?!

artist friend series: yuka nareta

So I've decided to start a weekly series featuring artwork exclusively made by my friends. So many of them are SO talented but have yet to be discovered! The least I can do is post them on my blog and brag about them.

And to start this column, I'd like to introduce fabulous urban artist, Yuka Nareta. I met Yuka back in college in Alabama where we bonded over acting silly and jamming to Gwen Stefani. Originally born in Kumamoto, Japan to a famed sushi chef, Yuka graduated with a degree in Art & Design and went on to pursue her career in the charming city of Birmingham, Alabama, where she is now.

Here's some of her latest work. Can't wait to see what she creates next!

To see more of her creations and inspirations, check out her tumblr here

I think its safe to say, we can expect great things from Yuka Nareta!
I'm so honored to know such an incredibly talented artist!

abc family's jane by design: your new source for fashion inspiration

Have you seen the adorable new ABC Family show, Jane by Design? I literally stopped in my tracks (and almost caused a pedestrian accident) when I saw the ad at The Grove last December. It looked so cute!

Inspired by the story line for classic 80s movie, Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead, Jane by Design tells the story of Jane Quimby (Erica Dasher), an unpopular yet stylishly before-her-time high school student, who's accidentally mistaken for an adult when she lands a job as part-time assistant for Gray Murray (Andie McDowell), a big-time fashion merchandiser at a top designer firm in New York. Although Andie's acting job isn't much to sneeze at (as she's trying too hard to be Miranda Priestly), Erica's acting is not bad! Pair that with fabulous fashion, and you've got yourself a fun show to catch on Hulu!

Here are some particularly inventive outfits "created" by Jane herself, a lover of thrift store finds and clearance racks! (I mean, who needs a big budget to look fabulous?)

Isn't she so Molly Ringwald in Pretty in Pink?

Top 6 of the Winter's Most Fabulous Adverts

Forget the Super Bowl commercials featuring drunk grandpas and bears dressed in bikinis, this winter, companies seem to be pulling out all the stops with some of the most adorably trendy commercials & promos.

1. JC Penney (Feb)
I haven't shopped at JC Penney since I was nine. But I might want to now after his cute ad! Thanks to their new CEO and former Apple Exec, Ron Johnson, JP is launching a complete company restructure bent primarily on improving the customer's experience within the stores with things like free ice cream in the summer and free back to school haircuts. I'm in! Check out the video launch below. (source)

2. Jason Wu for Target (Jan)
Launching its line today, many shoppers formed lines outside Target hours before they opened. Apparently a little more civilized than their last launch with Missoni (picture moms at a 50 cent diaper sale), the LA Times reports of the West Hollywood Target commanding people to be nice as they walk in. They only slightly listened (source)

3. Kate Spade's Spring Launch (Feb)
This girl never ceases to amaze me with her fabulous campaigns!

4. Grand Marnier (Dec)
Truly fabulous!

5. CIROC featuring Diddy (a short film promo) (Dec)

6. Gillette (Feb)
